Pets Thefts During the Lunar New Year:

A Growing Threat

As the Lunar New Year approaches, there’s an alarming rise in dog and cat thefts in Vietnam. Pet owners are increasingly sharing distressing stories of their beloved companions being stolen or killed, often right from their homes. The demand for dog and cat meat spikes during this time, prompting thieves to act earlier in the day, putting pets at greater risk.

We are strongly urging pet owners to take extra precautions during this vulnerable period.

What you can do to keep your pet safe:

Keep pets indoors when you’re at home, and never leave them unattended outside, even in your own yard.

Walk pets during the day, avoiding very early mornings and late evenings when risks of theft and poisoning are higher.

Use a leash and muzzle on walks to prevent pets from ingesting harmful substances, such as poison.

Stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity or signs of poisoning to local pet owner groups.

By taking these steps and raising awareness, we can help protect our furry friends from this dangerous trade and ensure they remain safe throughout the Tet period and beyond. Let’s work together to safeguard pets from harm!
