Paws Rescue Diaries:

May 2025 – 10th Anniversary of Paws for Compassion

This month, Paws for Compassion is celebrating a big milestone: our 10th anniversary!

Paws for Compassion began 10 years ago, with two friends dreaming of a better life for the animals in DaNang, Vietnam. Our organisation started with Asia and Pearly – our very first dog and cat rescue – two animals that changed our lives forever.

Asia & Pearly: The reason Paws exists

Asia and Pearly, our very first rescues, were saved from a corrupt “shelter” that was secretly selling animals to slaughterhouses. They were two of the lucky ones who made it out alive.

Asia, just a tiny, mange-ridden puppy, had been hit by a motorbike and left to die. Pearly, found in a nearby cage, had suffered similar trauma and could barely move from the pain.

With love, care, and time, both recovered and today, they’re thriving. Asia is now a globe-trotting adventurer living her best life with her forever family, while Pearly enjoys the comforts of home, ruling her world with quiet grace and endless charm.

Their journey reminds us why we do what we do, and why every rescue matters.
Adopt, don’t shop. Because every life deserves a second chance.
Your support made this happen

What began in 2015 as a humble dream has grown into something more remarkable than we ever imagined.

Since then, we’ve rescued and cared for around 300 cats and over 200 dogs. Today, we operate a cat shelter, a dog shelter, and two vet clinics in Central Vietnam.

Together with our amazing partners, we’ve provided over 5,000 sterilisations, preventing the suffering of unwanted litters, and protected thousands of pets and their communities through free rabies vaccinations.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible people behind the scenes: our PAWsome team, who work tirelessly every single day. We’re endlessly grateful to them, and to YOU, our community of adopters, fosters, donors, and supporters.

Thank you for being part of this journey.

Meet our newest rescues

Meet Kiri

Kiri was found wandering the streets, looking lost and in rough shape. A kind-hearted woman gave her food and care, but couldn’t keep her long-term, so she reached out to us for help.

Once Kiri came into our care, she was diagnosed with demodectic mange, a non-contagious skin condition that needs medicated baths and ongoing treatment. Thankfully, her bloodwork was clear, and she tested negative for parvo, distemper, and tick fever!

Despite everything she’s been through, Kiri is incredibly sweet and affectionate. She clearly craves love and attention, and we believe she may have once had a home.

Now safe at Paws, Kiri is healing well, and her beautiful golden fur is growing back fast. She’s recently joined our pack after being fully vaccinated, and she’s already getting along with everyone!

This gentle girl deserves a second chance and a forever home filled with love. Interested in adopting Kiri? Get in touch!

If you can’t adopt, consider sponsoring her to help cover her care and daily needs until she finds her perfect match. Sponsors receive regular updates on her progress and journey.

Let’s help Kiri get the happy ending she deserves.

Adopted & Loved

Louie found his furever home!

Louie was rescued last August after being spotted by a kind couple travelling through Vietnam. The poor pup had a severely bloated stomach and was struggling to breathe.

Diagnosed with tick fever, the brave little Louie made an incredible recovery. He left the clinic to spend several months with a loving foster family, where he learned all about house life before returning to the shelter, hoping it might increase his chances of finding his perfect match among visiting adopters.

That’s when Albert noticed him on our page and reached out to meet him. It was love at first sight! After being introduced to his new big sister, Moon the adorable French Bulldog, the adoption was confirmed.

Louie has been settling into his beautiful new home, exploring, relaxing, and happily chasing Moon around the garden. We couldn’t be happier for our “little” Louie and are so grateful to Albert for welcoming him into the The Magic Forest family!

Another happy story

It’s now official: Olaf is adopted!

Now named “Ola”, this smart and energetic girl has been thriving with her new “dad”, Ted, for over two months. Ted, a fitness trainer with a big heart, turned out to be the perfect match for her.

From the beginning, we were very hopeful the adoption would be finalised…it is now confirmed, Ola is staying right where she belongs!

She’s enjoying the happy life she deserves in Hoi An, the same place where she was rescued back in November. At the time, she was in terrible condition, suffering from severe mange, a skin infection, and blood parasites.

Seeing her now, healthy and loved, is what keeps us going.

Thank you, Ted, for offering Ola her happily ever after and thank you to everyone who supported her during her journey to happiness!

Community Outreach

Free Sterilisation & Microchipping Campaign in Hoi An

In May 2024, with the incredible support of Lady Freethinker, we launched a new campaign in Hoi An, offering free sterilisations, microchips, and rabies vaccinations to local pet owners. What began as a one-time project for 100 animals quickly became a huge success, and thanks to the amazing response, we’re thrilled to continue the program into 2025!

Since restarting the initiative just two months ago, we’ve already sterilised 30 pets and microchipped 26. It’s a small but powerful step toward preventing unwanted litters, reuniting lost pets with their families, and building a safer, healthier community for animals.

Looking ahead, our goal is to provide free microchips and rabies vaccines for every pet attending our sterilisation days, help keep pets safe with collars and harnesses, and track monthly data on pet theft and disappearances to drive real change with local authorities.

If you’d like to support this important work, please consider making a donation. Every contribution helps us continue providing free care to pets in need.

YOU can make a difference

As a non-profit relying solely on public donations, we are incredibly grateful for the generosity of our supporters—who make it possible for us to rescue and rehabilitate animals in need. Your contributions have enabled us to provide essential vaccinations, spay/neuter surgeries, and medical treatment to thousands of animals.

Please consider continuing your support to help us carry out our vital work.
