Paws Rescue Diaries:

April 2025

Welcome to this month’s edition of our Rescue Diaries!
In this post, we’re sharing heartwarming stories from the frontlines of our mission—featuring rescued animals, incredible transformations, and updates on our ongoing projects.

We’ll highlight our newest rescues, progress in foster care, and the impact of your support in making these stories possible. Thank you for helping us make a difference!

Meet our newest rescues

Meet Mr Darcy

This fluffy little guy came into our care recently after a difficult start in life. Rescued over a year ago, Mr. Darcy had ongoing eye issues that never fully healed. When his rescuer could no longer care for him due to personal struggles, she reached out for help. Thanks to some recent adoptions, space opened up at the Cat House—and we were able to take him in.

At the clinic, we discovered that Mr. Darcy’s eyelids were turned inward, a painful condition causing constant irritation. He also had ear mites.

Despite it all, he was sweet, playful, and patiently waited for someone to give him the care he desperately needed.

Since then, he’s undergone surgery to correct his eyelids and has now recovering very well, keeping his spirits high and already winning the hearts of our entire team.

Once he’s fully healed, this lucky guy will get to enjoy the comfort of a foster home while he waits for his forever family.

Want to help Mr. Darcy on his journey? You can sponsor him monthly to support his medical care and daily needs until he finds the loving home he deserves. You’ll receive regular updates on his progress.

Adopted & Loved

Little Pumpkin is adopted

Lucky Pumpkin has found her forever home, less than 3 months after her rescue!

Back in February, Pumpkin and her siblings, Squash and Butternut, were brutally dumped on the street. Tossed from a bag off a moving bike, they were found alone and terrified in the dark by our rescue team.

After weeks of care, treatments for Giardia and Coccidia infections, and lots of love, they began to heal.

Pumpkin, the sickest of the three, showed incredible strength, and it paid off. This brave little girl completely stole the hearts of her adopters and has already settled beautifully into her new home!

Now, her siblings Squash and Butternut are still at the Cat House, waiting for their turn at happiness. Both are playful, confident, and full of personality—ready to bring joy to a loving home.

We wish Pumpkin the happiest life ahead!
And if you’re looking for a furry friend (or two), message us to meet her siblings!

Cao’s Happy Story

Meet Cáo! This sweet girl’s journey began last February when tourists found her all alone in a rice field near Hoi An and brought her to Paws International Clinic.

Though she was confused and underweight, Cáo was in good health overall. We first named her “Rice,” but her foster dad quickly came up with a name that suited her perfectly—Cáo, meaning “fox” in Vietnamese, thanks to her fox-like features and shy, gentle nature.

As we searched for a forever home for Cáo, her foster dad realized he couldn’t imagine life without her and decided to make her a permanent part of his family.

Stories like Cáo’s remind us why we do what we do every day. We are so grateful to be a part of her journey, and we couldn’t be happier that she’s found her forever home.

If you’re thinking about adopting, remember: there’s a wonderful animal waiting to meet you!

Community Outreach

Together, we’re building a healthier, safer future for pets and people alike!

Thanks to the generosity of Smartheart Viet Nam and the dedicated teams from Paws International Clinic Da Nang, we successfully vaccinated 57 local pets during our Paws Spring Market, providing them with essential protection against rabies.

This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to public health and animal welfare, aligned with Việt Nam’s national goal of zero human deaths from rabies by 2030.

Ahead of our Paws Spring Market, the Smartheart team also donated 100kg of dog food to support our shelter residents—an act of generosity we’re deeply grateful for.

But our work continues: 43 more vaccines will be administered in Hoi An during our upcoming sterilisation campaign, reaching more pets in need.

Why this matters:
Despite national efforts, rabies still claims dozens of lives each year in Việt Nam.
In 2024, there were 80 human rabies deaths. In the first three months of 2025, another 20 cases were reported across 13 provinces.

Every vaccine given is a step toward not just protecting pets, but safeguarding communities.

Thank you to Smartheart and everyone working with us to make these life-saving efforts possible.

Let’s keep moving forward—together—toward a safer, healthier future for both animals and people.
